Fat Tuna

Palinurus elephas

The lobster occurs in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, from southern Norway to Morocco, and in the Mediterranean Sea, except in the easternmost part. This species lives on rocky shores, below the low tide lines.

Conservation Status

Several decades of intensive fishing have contributed to a decline of this species since the 1970s, causing the lobster to be classified as “Vulnerable” in the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
