Dusky grouper

Epinephelus marginatus

The Dusky grouper usually occurs on rocky bottoms along coastal areas and around shallow seamounts. Although usually found at depths of between 20 and 100m.

Conservation Status

Although restrictions have been enforced to prevent divers from spearfishing for dusky groupers in the Azores since 1983, there is still concern as to the status of this species.

Biology

The maximum reported size for this species is 150 cm (60 kg). Dusky groupers are reported to have a maximum age of 50 years.
